Your First Visit to Acura Dental Implants & Periodontics
Welcome to Acura Dental Implants & Periodontics, the Darien, Illinois, practice of board-certified periodontist Dr. Amer Atassi. We want your first visit to feel seamless, informative, and stress-free, so here’s what to expect and how you can help us serve you efficiently.
What happens at the initial appointment
Your first visit is primarily a comprehensive consultation. Dr. Atassi will review your health history, perform an oral evaluation, and discuss the diagnosis and all available treatment options—whether you need dental implants, gum disease therapy, or another periodontal service. When the treatment plan is straightforward, and you are ready to proceed, we can often begin therapy the same day. More intricate cases may require a separate visit so we can coordinate medical clearances or fabricate surgical guides, ensuring you receive the safest, most precise care possible.
What to bring
To streamline your appointment, please arrive with:
- Referral information and recent radiographs – If another dentist or physician sent you, bring their referral slip and any relevant x-rays.
- A current medication list – Include dosage and frequency.
- Insurance documents – Completed medical and dental insurance forms help us file claims quickly and accurately.
Patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Health considerations
Kindly inform our team in advance if you:
- Have systemic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, artificial joints or heart valves, or a history of rheumatic fever.
- Take medications that affect bleeding or healing—e.g., anticoagulants, daily aspirin, or heart medications.
Sharing this information early allows Dr. Atassi to tailor anesthesia options, antibiotic coverage, and post-operative instructions to your specific needs.
X-ray guidelines
Digital imaging is indispensable for precise implant placement and periodontal diagnosis. If your referring dentist has recent images, ask their office to email them to us or bring a copy on the day of your visit. Should additional or updated films be required, our practice uses low-dose digital radiography onsite, giving Dr. Atassi immediate, high-resolution data while minimizing exposure.
